Summer Programs

"I came to Aspen for the winter and stayed through the summer." Aspen is a town of dedicated long time locals and has a reputation for pulling its visitors in season after season. In the summer the town feels big, but the space around town is vast and can be filled with adventures. We guide Day Hikes to high alpine valleys filled with endless fields of wildflowers, streams and lakes. Challenges and personal goals can be met on the Colorado Fourteen Thousand Foot Peaks, through Backpacking Trips, Backcountry Overnight Hut Trips and Rock Climbing. AAG offers a full roster of family adventures as well as Technical Mountaineering Instruction and High Altitude Training for Runners and Cyclists.

All trips include local transportation to trailheads and climbing areas, day packs and poles, and lunches can be arranged if needed.

Hut Run Hut

Hut Run Hut returns for the third year this summer with 3 trips this summer. Join us to take on the challenge of a six day run through the heart of the Colorado Rockies! Hut Run Hut is a 100 mile run led by fun, knowledgeable guides and includes overnight stays in 10th Mountain Division Huts, delicious meals and all the camaraderie you need to stay stoked.

July 18-23 - Hut Run Hut with Ricky Lightfoot and guest appearance Scott Jurek - Dubbed the Fells' Favourite Son by iRunFar - Ricky has spent the past several years exploring the world's trails and races while helping keep England's fell running spirit vibrant and quick. In the six years that I’ve known Ricky, I’ve not understood a whole lot of what he’s said on account of his thick, Cumbrian accent but it's usually followed with a smile or a laugh.
Scott will be joining us for some trail miles, an amazing couple of meals from his book "Eat and Run and regale us with tales from the Appalachian Trail.

August 1-6 - Hut Run Hut with Anna Frost - From Colorado to Bhutan... from the island of La Palma to her native South Island of New Zealand... few people have seen the world as through the eyes of Anna Frost. Whether inspiring the next generation of mountain runners with her children's book "Fearless Frosty" or running through her newly adopted mountains in Southern Colorado, Anna is forever ready for an adventure into the unknown.

September 19-24 - Hut Run Hut with Jenn Shelton - In the world of running, Jenn is the smiling face of grit, determination and wit. The sport has taken her along the John Muir Trail, to the depths of the Copper Canyon and very close to the edge of the human potential (and sanity).

Castle Peak Mountaineering Course

The Intro to Mountaineering Castle Peak weekend course is a collaborative program with Colorado Mountain School. This course will teach you the skills needed to climb a peak along with how to camp in a alpine setting. Day one will be spent traveling up to Montezuma Basin and setting up a camp at 12,000 feet. The second half of the day is focused on skills in this high alpine basin. The skills we teach are traveling as a roped team, walking in crampons, using a mountaineering axe properly, and self arresting a fall.  We’ll be working on belaying, basic movement, short-roping. On day two, we’ll utilize the skills we learned on day one and climb Castle Peak 14265′ from our high camp in Montezuma Basin. This trip is a great opportunity to learn new skills or brush up on your mountaineering skills with the added bonus of summitting a classic Colorado 14er.
